Ecological problems
Until the worldwide ban on driftnets adopted by the UN in 1991, a driftnet death wall of 60,000 km existed in the Asian region of the Pacific alone due to the Asian fishing fleets. In addition to the former countries of origin of driftnet fishing such as Japan, Taiwan and Korea, France, England, Ireland and Italy are among the countries that practised this type of deep-sea fishing and still continue it to some extent today.
Another problem arises from the fact that some of the nylon nets used are being lost.
